Founder of the Mindful Movement centre and Co-Director of Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Australia (TCTSY Australia)
Kristen is a paediatric Occupational Therapist, an infant & parent/child/youth & adult Mental Health Clinician, a Yoga Teacher, currently one of the first four yoga teachers in Australia to be Certified as a TCTSY Facilitator (TCTSY-F) and one of 15 Trauma Center Trainers worldwide (TCTSY-T). Kristen is also a Mindfulness Meditation Facilitator, and a mother to two fantastic children.
Since 2007, I have been working in child and youth mental health as a clinician and occupational therapist & currently work part-time in Public Psychiatry as a FaPMI coordinator in Adult Mental Health Services. I have worked with several Child Youth Mental Health Services (CAMHS/CYMHS), Early Childhood Intervention Services and Family Violence Services in Melbourne, Australia. In addition to working in public mental health, I also work as a Mental Health & OT clinician/supervisor/consultant/trainer in private practice and currently have the honour to supervise and support over 50 clinicians, allied health professionals & family support workers.
My love for Mindful Movement and Mindful Living started very early as I was fortunate enough to be introduced to dance, yoga, creative movement and the healing arts as a very young child by my mother. I began to regularly practice yoga and meditation in my teens, and in my 20's I was introduced to Buddhist mindfulness practices and became a reiki practitioner. After assisting my mother with her Gita yoga teaching in 2000, I undertook several years of Yoga teacher training in a variety of yoga styles, and since 2002 I have been certified to teach yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices to people of all ages and abilities. In 2007 I was fortunate enough to co-facilitate a yoga class at the Yooralla School to a group of children and youths, which was a turning point for me in combining my skills as an OT and as a yoga teacher. After having children of my own, it was not until 2014 that my life as a Yoga/Meditation instructor and my life as a Mental Health Clinician/OT truly merged: since then I have been devoted to fully integrating yoga, mindfulness and mental health.
